James C. Haight, J.D. |
Born
and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Jim Haight has lived in the Washington,
D.C. area for the past 40 years and has practiced law for over 35 of those
years, both in the private sector and with the Government (USPTO, DOE, and NIH). Trained in both science and the law, his practice has been
limited to intellectual property law; small business, retirement, and
estate planning; special needs trusts; guardianship; elder law; and
probate. Although he already had over two decades worth of experience in
estate planning and related matters, in the summer of 2000 he successfully
took the Certified Financial Planner™ examination and
attended a week long CFP® Residency training program in order
to provide him with a broadened perspective in counseling clients.
In addition, he annually attends over a dozen continuing education
programs sponsored by various bar associations and the Financial Planning
Association to keep up with the cutting edge solutions to many of the
problems facing clients these days. He holds an “av”
rating from Martindle-Hubbel Law Directory, which is awarded based
upon peer recommendations from other lawyers. An AV Rating shows
that a lawyer has reached the height of professional excellence. He or she
has usually practiced law for many years, and is recognized for the
highest levels of skill and integrity.
Jim
Haight has long been an active member of his community and profession.
When he maintained an office in Montgomery Village, Maryland, he was
active in the local Rotary Club of Gaithersburg and helped to establish
the first the Upper Montgomery County YMCA Committee of Management.
He also spent six years on the Metropolitan Washington YMCA Board of
Directors, where he chaired the Legal Concerns Committee. He also
served on the parish council of St. Rose of Lima Parish and as a volunteer
financial counselor with Gaithersburg HELP and is currently an active member of the Montgomery County and Maryland
State Bar Associations and The Estate Planning Council of Suburban Maryland.
